EMEA buyers show strong demand for Turkish steel
In January 2025, Türkiye's steel exports rose by 23% year-on-year, reaching 1.1 million tonnes (Mt) as buyers from the EMEA region showed increased appetite for longs and semis.
Supplies of longs products surged by 25.3% over this period, to around 686,400t, driven by demand from Yemen and Romania. Export of semi-finished products totalled to 61,089t, with most of the volume heading to Morocco. Overseas shipments of Turkish flat products climbed by 6.6%, to about 374,000t, with Ukraine being the largest importer.
Steel imports into Turkey rose in January by 24.9% compared to the same month last year, reaching 1.7 Mt. Semis deliveries amounted to around 700,000t, which is a rise of 32.9% on the year before but down from about 1 Mt recorded in December 2024 amid high volatility in scrap prices.
